About Temperature Correction
Hydrometers are calibrated to read accurately at a specific temperature (usually 60°F or 68°F). When your sample temperature differs from the calibration temperature, the reading must be corrected.
Tips:
- Check your hydrometer for its calibration temperature (printed on the scale)
- For best accuracy, cool samples to near calibration temperature
- Very hot samples (>100°F) may damage plastic hydrometers
- Temperature corrections are less accurate at extreme temperature differences
