Beer Calorie Calculator

Calculate the approximate calories in your beer based on the gravity readings. Note: If you plan to add adjuncts, you'll need to account for those separately.

Default is 12 oz (standard bottle/can)

About Beer Calories

Beer calories come from two main sources: alcohol and residual carbohydrates. The alcohol content contributes about 7 calories per gram, while carbohydrates contribute about 4 calories per gram.

How It's Calculated:

This calculator uses industry-standard formulas based on original and final gravity readings:

  • Calories from alcohol are calculated based on the alcohol produced during fermentation
  • Calories from carbohydrates are calculated from the residual extract (unfermented sugars)
  • The total is scaled to your specified serving size

Important Notes:

  • This calculation assumes a standard beer fermentation profile
  • Adjuncts (fruit, spices, lactose, etc.) will add additional calories not accounted for here
  • Actual calories may vary based on fermentation efficiency and yeast strain
  • For most accurate results, use precise gravity measurements

Reducing Calories in Your Beer:

  • Use highly fermentable sugars to reduce residual carbs
  • Employ enzymes to break down complex sugars
  • Target lower original gravities
  • Ensure complete fermentation with healthy yeast and proper nutrients
